Logistics and warehousing are two key areas when it comes to moving products from the point of production into consumers hands. Logistics is the complex part of the process that involves transportation of products from point A to point B, inventory management and communication between supplier and customers. Warehousing covers the storage and inventory management of products while they are not on the move.
Large companies may manage their own logistics and warehousing in-house, while many businesses will contract third party specialist companies to manage their supply chain, provide best practice services or business intelligence.
Roles in logistics and warehousing are often fast-paced and challenging. Candidates can explore a wide range of roles that could give you the opportunity to develop detailed knowledge in a particular skill set or to problem solve and work towards innovative solutions.
According to Australian Industry Standards, logistics and warehousing jobs are expected to grow moderately by 6.5% per year until 2024. Freight and transportation related jobs are expected to experience the most growth in this period, while warehousing and other roles will see more moderate growth.
While warehousing roles will see lower growth in the next few years, employers have reported that this area is expected to see a skills shortage over the same period so job candidates with suitable skills should have lots of opportunity.
